I think these are great ideas -- especially ways to improve visibility in mainstream media.

Most mainstream Americans approve of "abstinence plus." That's basically what I got in my rural CA high school back in the 80's. That's basically: It's best to wait until you're older or married. But, for whoever needs to know for whatever reason, this is what a condom is, and we'll use a banana to show everyone how to put one on. These are other forms of birth control. This is what STDs are and how they're transmitted, and this is how you protect yourself.

Back in the 80's, our health teacher even did a day where people wrote questions on paper plates and then we threw them around the room so no one knew whose was whose and then he went through the questions on the plates and answered them. That was helpful.
