I've been worried a lot too. People keep trying to normalize events and say we just need to hold out another four years. I'm not so sure it will work out this way this time.
It's looking like a lot of the people who voted for Trump didn't really understand what they were voting for. They thought they were voting for Trump, but we'll probably end up with Vance -- whom no one but maybe some of the tech bros really seem to like. They thought that Trump had nothing to do with Project 2025 and now they're surprised that the authors of that are all being placed on his staff. They thought that he wouldn't actually deport people, but now he and his staffers are laying the groundwork to do that and prison stock is going up. They're also talking about "denaturalization" for people who became citizens, so that might be a rude awakening for some naturalized citizens who voted for him. They believed Trump when he said he had a "concept" of a plan to fix the economy, but many don't understand what tariffs work or what they are, so they don't understand that if Trump and Vance raise tariffs, consumer goods on imported items are about to get a lot more expensive. Deporting the people who produce many of our domestic goods is about to also make domestically-produced items a lot more expensive -- if they're even available at all.
Meanwhile, they're gloating about "owning the libs" -- not realizing that they just shot people like me in the toe, but they just shot themselves in both feet.
Honestly, I think sometimes people need to sleep in the beds they made. This might be our time to improve our self-care and let the people who voted for Vance and Trump and their Project 2025 deal with the outcomes of that. To the extent that is possible given that we are all living in a closed system. This might be a good time to travel, or to focus as much as you can on your domestic life. As much as possible, let them deal with whatever Vance and Trump do. Send them your thoughts and prayers when this becomes a struggle for them.
