Speaking for myself as a single woman who avoided the marriage trap: I didn’t get married because I wanted a PARTNER, and I didn’t find any men who seemed capable of that. I don’t think I’m alone. A lot of women want an actual partner who helps manage the household and who is also a supportive partner intellectually and emotionally. Not that they have to be locked at the hip with us— we also should BOTH have space to pursue our own interests and friendships. But more and more women are becoming like me, and are not willing to marry a manchild who is going to create even more household and emotional labor than the children do.
